Drying reduces spoilage and growth of bacteria in foods that can make us sick. Successful drying depends on heat, dry air, and good air circulation. This program discusses how drying preserves food, how to pretreat foods before drying, and how to dry fruits and vegetables.
Our Basics of Dehydrating Class will cover how to safely dry fruits, vegetables, and meat. Join us on April 22nd! Sign up here under “Cocke County FCS Options.”

Freezing is easy, convenient, and doesn’t take as much time as other food preservation methods like canning and drying. This program discusses how freezing preserves food, how to freeze meat safely and maintain its quality, and how long to store frozen foods.
